Cliff Swallow (norther variety)

Apr. 2007

Hiking in the Sierra foothills outside of Chinese Camp, I took a long time out on a bridge where what seemed like hundreds of cliff swallows were flocking and circling up the river bed over and under the bride, making wide graceful turns as they grouped together and broke apart at a tempo all their own. The northern variant of the cliff swallow has the white patch on its forehead.
